In 1999, Lucumi Music Productions was founded by husband and wife team, Graphic Designer / Manager, Peggy Jo Oliva “PJ” and Afro Cuban Percussionist, Long John Oliva aka “Penalti”. The Independent record label started its operations out of the garage in Highland Park, Los Angeles, which was furnished with a computer and proper equipment to package and promote music.

Out of that small garage, the AC Jazz Project's 1st design for the Lucumi recording was conceptualized, which later gained notoriety in the Latin Jazz world, eventually being listed as one of the Top 100 Latin Jazz Recordings of All Time by Latin Beat Magazine's Nelson Rodriguez, and now in 2022, considered to be one of the most essential Latin Jazz Recordings of All Time, according to Latin Jazz Network.

After the AC Jazz Project’s Lucumi release, the indie label was able to produce two more successful AC Jazz Project recordings which included Buscando La Ortographia and Buleya(a re-release and re-package of Cuba Rico).

What does the future hold for the Lucumi Music?

As 2025 begins, Lucumi will be in the process of re-packaging and re-releasing it's existing music inventory as box sets which will include, vinyls, merchandise and photo books that will be life-long works of art and a music collector's masterpieces.

And, as an Indie label, Lucumi will discover, nurture, and promote talented independent artists, focusing on artist development, management, and music publishing. We aim to create sustainable careers for our artists while ensuring their artistic integrity is upheld.

Lucumi's vision it to become the leading indie record label known for it's commitment to artist development and empowering musicians to thrive in an evolving music industry.
